Film booklet: Wings over desire
Graphically reinterpreting a film, this film booklet express the key idea within the film, ‘Wings Over Desire’, "Wings Over Desire," A 1987 romantic fantasy film, a movie about invisibility, immortal angels who observe the city of Berlin, listening to thoughts of humans and comforting the distressed.
The Movie
The film amplifies the emotion of longing. Starting with the angel’s perspective in sepia-toned black and white, the angel’s desire to be human increases as he observes the human inhabitants. The emotion of longing further expands to the trapeze artist, who soon loses the chance of performing as her circus is soon to close down.
The Approach
This film booklet hopes to express the same emotion of longing, printed in black on transparent paper, the wall between pages breaks, representing the cross dimension of the world between angels and humans. The concept further expanded with the voices from the angel and human laid on alternate pages.
Although both angel and human are split between pages, both contain the same emotion of longing, which is being translated visually in having some words from the angel’s voice filled in the sentence of the trapeze artist.
